Brazilian Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa is the first sporting figure to have joined the Richard Mille family. A long-time test driver for Richard Mille watches, it was he who enabled the brand to initiate and accomplish astonishing feats in watchmaking development. The RM 011, the second timepiece in the “10th Anniversary” collection is an emblematic model by Richard Mille, named for Felipe Massa from its very conception. The RMAC1 movement heralds the brand’s first flyback chronograph.

Crafted entirely in grade 5 titanium and hand finished, the caliber features an annual calendar, a 60-minute flyback chronograph and a countdown function, assembled for this anniversary edition inside an NTPT® carbon case, a material unique to Richard Mille, offering remarkable resistance and a unique appearance.

OVERSIZE DATE DISPLAY Semi-instantaneous, placed in a red outlined horizontal aperture under 12 o’clock. The number 19, Felipe’s race number, has been cleverly reworked to suggest a 12 on the sapphire dial.

FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH

By using the pusher between 4 and 5 o’clock, the running chronograph can be reset without first having to stop the mechanism. This was originally developed for pilots, in order not to lose time (and therefore accuracy) from stopping, resetting and starting the chronograph whilst traversinga navigational point. Running operation: The user can start or stop the chronograph function via the pusher located between 1 and 2 o’clock. The flyback function can be continuously reset at will by depressing the second pusher located between 4 and 5 o’clock. Stopping: Use the start/stop pusher between 1 and 2 o’clock to stop the chronograph, then depress the reset/flyback pusher once.

CASE IN NTPT® CARBON

NTPT® carbon is an exclusive material with a unique appearance. Its remarkable surface displays extremely regular undulations, as NTPT® carbon is composed of multiple layers of parallel filaments obtained by dividing carbon fibers. These layers, with a maximum thickness of 30 microns, are impregnated with resin then woven on a special machine that modifies the direction of the weft by 45° between layers. Heated to 120°C at a pressure of 6 bars, the NTPT® is then ready to be processed on a CNC machine in Richard Mille’s Proart case factory.

FREE SPRUNG BALANCE WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
This type of balance wheel represents the ultimate in innovation. It guarantees greater reliability when subjected to shocks and also during movement assembly and disassembly, hence better chronometric results over time. The regulator index is eliminated and a more accurate and repeatable adjustment is possible thanks to 4 small adjustable weights located directly on the balance.

In sapphire (thickness: 0.40 mm) with anti-glare treatment (both sides), protected by 8 silicon braces inserted in the upper and lower grooves.
